Exercise 4. Listen to the dialogue between Mike and Pete (page 32 task 1) again. Have a talk in pairs. Ask your partner what he/she would like to be. Oleg: Mike, what would you like to be when you grow up?

Ivan: I don’t know, maybe a pilot. No, no. That’s dangerous.

Oleg: A teacher?

Ivan: No, school is boring and there are too many kids. I know! I’d like to be a computer programmer.

Oleg: Why?

Ivan: Isn’t it clear? Then I could play computer games all day long with nobody around to say, “Don’t you think it’s time to stop playing?”

Oleg: That sounds great!

Ivan: What about you?

Oleg: I’d like to be.... Let me see. Not a doctor, it’s yucky and you often work at night.

Ivan: A journalist maybe?

Oleg: Defi nitely not. You know I’m bad at writing. I would like to be a detective.

Ivan: You mean like Inspector J?

Oleg: Look, it says here that I have all the right qualities to be a detective. I’m patient, I’m brave, I’m hard-working and I’m clever.

Ivan: OK, Mr Perfect. Let’s solve one mystery! How come you got an F in the History test if you are so clever and hardworking?

Oleg: Yes, that’s a real mystery that even the best detective in the world couldn’t solve.
